Last week Eidos and Crystal Dynamics announced a brand new Lara Croft game, minus the name Tomb Raider and minus a disc, the game is set to be download only. This week new details have emerged, including screenshots, and it's not what we expected.
Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light features a top-down isometric viewpoint, which wouldn't be out of place in 1980s. Although Tomb Raider isn't the name, tomb raiding is still the game. This time though, Lara is teaming up with a Mayan spearman called Totec. Together they must solve the puzzles and defeat the evil spirit Xoxolt. With two characters you know what that means. Yes, Guardian of Light also features co-op play.

It's certainly a new move for Tomb Raider, but far from what we were expecting from the new Lara adventure. We asked an Eidos rep if we'll be seeing a true Tomb Raider title any time soon, perhaps this Christmas? He said: "officially speaking it's 'no comment' on TR9, but to answer your question you won't be seeing it near this Christmas, hence a little Lara Croft Guardian of Light action ;)" At least we'll have Guardian of Light to keep us occupied until Lara is back to her true self.
