05-12-11: Xbox 360 users will be pleased to see the launch of a new catch-up TV service, which, combined with Kinect, will introduce voice and gesture control of your favourite films, TV shows and even music.
This 'entertainment revolution' will kick off tomorrow all across the world, allowing users to embark upon an all-new experience with their Xbox 360.
"A new era in entertainment begins where all your entertainment is together in one placeyour games, movies, TV shows, music and sports," said Don Mattrick, president of the Interactive Entertainment Business at Microsoft.
There will be a new interface, reminiscent of the windows phone and with the launch of Bing on Xbox, finding the film, TV show, music or game that you want will be effortless, your voice being transformed into the controller.
"Microsoft has just built and delivered it: A single box that ties together all the content you want, made easily accessible through a universal, natural, voice-directed search. This is now the benchmark against which all other living room initiatives should be compared," said James McQuivey of Forrester Research in 'Engaged TV: Xbox 360 Leads The Way To A New Video Product Experience.' "With more than 57 million people worldwide already sitting on a box that's about to be upgraded for free, Microsoft has not only built the right experience, it has ensured that it will spread quickly and with devastating effect."
Around 40 different providers will be joining Xbox 360 in this move, including LOVEFiLM. Previously available for PS3 customers, the service has now jumped to the Xbox 360, allowing users of Xbox LIVE to instantly stream movies via LOVEFiLM Instant, in a brilliant new way!
"It is an exciting day for LOVEFiLM customers and an auspicious day for the TV entertainment industry as a whole. Launching LOVEFiLM Instant on Xbox 360 and Kinect means bringing the service to a million more living rooms - a huge achievement," said Simon Calver, CEO of Amazon's LOVEFiLM. "LOVEFiLM members in the UK can access our content in another exciting, innovative way and all for one straightforward price. The simplicity of our pricing and the ease with which customers can use LOVEFiLM Instant should make us the first choice for those customers who want fantastic entertainment at great value for money, anytime, anywhere."
Stephen McGill, Director of Xbox & Entertainment for Microsoft UK, added, "It's very exciting to see the launch of Amazon's LOVEFiLM on Xbox LIVE. Xbox owners will be eager to get started, using their Kinect-enabled consoles to interact with LOVEFiLM's extensive catalogue of movies in ways that will only be available on Xbox 360."
