Saints Row: The Third Review
Join the Insanity

Saints Row: The Third is not your typical video game. So many times in the past it has been compared to Grand Theft Auto, accused of being a rip off, but it really does stand strong on it's own merit. The sheer randomness and crazyness of the activities you find yourself participating in is enough to make it stand out. This game is fun. Pure, simple, mental fun. And really, that is what we are all looking for in a game, isn't it?

In Saints Row: The Third, you will find yourself in the new location of Steelport as the series steps away from Stilwater, the setting of the previous titles. As the new gang, you are keen to take your place at the top, so it is time to crush the three rival gangs.

Near the beginning of the game, you learn about customising your character. This really helps to make the game your own. From your body type, to your clothes, to the car you want to drive, the power is in your hands. Customise your character to look however you see fit. The game allows you to be creative and have a character as unique as you want.

Within the game, you can make your way through the story mode, completing missions and following the madness, be it chauffeuring an angry tiger or fighting a swarm of zombies. There is never a dull moment and you definitely won't feel as if you have done this all before. You can also play the campaign mode co operatively, inviting a friend to join the game.

Completing missions will unlock extra content, such as vehicles and almost everything you do will earn you respect and cash. You can use the cash throughout to buy various things.

If you need a break from the story or would like to boost your cash flow, there are many side tasks available, scattered across the city.

The graphics are not too bad. With games such as Uncharted 3 rolling out stunning visuals, you could find yourself trying to compare. If you do, you'll realise that they are not up to the same standards, but they work. They are by no means bad.

Some of the minor characters did get a little tedious, but all in all, this wasn't really an issue. The main characters, especially your own, work to drive the story forward.

The story mode itself isn't the longest, but there are plenty more tasks to delve into once the campaign is over. There are two endings, both of which are seen. Honestly, they were the biggest let downs of the game. But again, it doesn't have too much of an impact. They don't take away from the brilliance of the game until that point and there are still many hours of fun to be had with the tasks.

The game is full of sex, violence and downright madness, but somehow, that seems to entertain. If you are looking for some mindless perversion, then you won't be disappointed. Saints Row: The Third is not about being serious, it's about escaping into this nutty world and having some amusement.
